The DICOM Directory (DICOMDIR) is a special DICOM file that serves as directory to a collection of DICOM files stored on removable media,
such as CD/DVD ROMs, usb memory sticks and Magneto-optical (MO) disks. When DICOM files are written on removable media, a DICOMDIR file is also written
on the disk to serve as a list of the disk contents.
